Winger Thomson joins the Diamonds

May 25, 2019

We are delighted to announce that former St Johnstone and Brechin City winger Craig Thomson has agreed terms on a deal to join the club.

The 24-year-old midfielder spent five years at McDiarmid Park, including loan spells with Elgin City and Stranraer, before moving to East Fife in January 2018. A year later Thomson made the switch to Glebe Park, scoring one goal in his 13 appearances for Brechin in the second half of last season.

Signing a contract at the Penny Cars Stadium this morning, Thomson told airdriefc.com: “I’m really excited to be joining Airdrie. Obviously it was a disappointing end to last season for me, but I was delighted when the club got in touch.

“I think I’ll bring quite a bit of pace and directness on the ball, and hopefully I can weigh in with assists and goals from the wings and the attacking areas. It’s a nice big pitch here, and that suits me.

“I’m looking forward to helping the team push for the play-offs at least - and on a personal level I’d like to improve my goal tally and just make sure my performances are good and I stay in the team!”

Manager Ian Murray added: "We're pleased to have Craig joining the squad, he'll provide us with much needed pace in the final third which was something we lacked last season.

"His hunger in wanting to join Airdrieonians was very important also, he's the type of player and person we want to be involved, and he'll supplement the existing group very well."

Craig becomes Airdrie’s second new signing of the summer after fellow midfielder Kurtis Roberts agreed terms last weekend.

However, one player who will not be returning to the club is Leighton McIntosh. The striker has decided his footballing future lies elsewhere.
