Goalkeepers agree Diamonds return

May 20, 2019

We are delighted to announce that two more Diamonds have agreed terms on contracts for the upcoming season.

Goalkeepers David Hutton and Andrew McNeil have both put pen to paper after impressive debut seasons between the sticks.

Former Ayr United and Dunfermline Athletic number 1 Hutton quickly established himself as a fans favourite at the club after coming in to replace the injured Scott Gallacher early last season.

A string of top quality displays helped ensure a top-half finish for Airdrie, and although the Diamonds narrowly missed out on a promotion play-off spot, manager Ian Murray was keen to get Hutton tied down for another season.

David told airdriefc.com: “I enjoyed it last season, but missing out on the play-offs was frustrating, so I want to go one better.

“I’m here to compete for the title. We want top four at least, but if you’re not pushing for titles there’s no point in playing.”

18-year-old keeper Andrew McNeil has also pledged his immediate future to the club after impressing with the reserve squad last season.

The former Motherwell and Livingston youth, who made the first-team bench on five occasions last year, said: “I’m delighted to continue my development and growth as a footballer at Airdrie.

“This is an exciting and promising spell for the club, and I’m looking forward to getting back at it for next season.”

A delighted Ian Murray added: “David had a very good season and deserved a new contract. As well as being a very good goalkeeper, he has a positive influence on the squad. Competitors like David are very valuable.

“Andy is a young keeper with an excellent attitude. He’s a very willing learner, and will only continue to improve by signing as a full time player.

“I’m very much looking forward to working with both of them again this season.”
