Defender Page joins the Diamonds

June 14, 2018

We are delighted to announce the signing of 28-year-old defender Jonathan Page, who has agreed a deal with the Diamonds after leaving East Fife.

Having been around the Scottish leagues for ten years, including spells at Motherwell, Hamilton Academical, Morton and Dunfermline Athletic, Page brings a wealth of experience to the backline.

As he prepared for the squad’s first pre-season training session this evening, the English defender told airdriefc.com about his ambitions for the season ahead.

“I’ve been in this league for a while, and I’ve played in a team who won the league, so hopefully I can bring some experience, but more to the point it’s about bringing performances on the pitch.

“I wouldn’t turn up if I wasn’t aiming to win the league or get promoted. I don’t see any point in playing if you’re not looking to win.”

Having agreed to terminate his contract at Bayview Stadium earlier this week, Jonathan had no hesitation in agreeing terms with the Diamonds.

“Without going into it too much, there were a mixture of footballing and personal reasons behind my decision to leave East Fife.

“After I’d spoken to them about the possibility of leaving, I had a chat with Stevie (Findlay) and it was a very short phone call. I was impressed by his enthusiasm and his ambition was infectious - I’m sure the other new signings have bought into the same thing, there’s a real buzz about the club just now.”

The Airdrie manager was delighted to get his man.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to get Jonny here. Alongside Sean and big Robbo, he’s exactly the type of centre-half we’ve been looking to bring in.

“As well as a tremendous amount of quality, he also brings a great deal of experience and leadership. He’s a top professional and he’ll be a real asset in the changing room as well as on the park.”
