Everyone at the club was shocked and saddened by the recent death of six-year-old Alesha MacPhail on the Isle of Bute.

Alesha, described as a happy and smiley young girl, was from Airdrie and attended Chapelside Primary.

​

Airdrieonians prides itself on being a community based club. When something like this happens in the town, we feel it as much as everyone else. Especially when we have such a young and vibrant fanbase of kids around Alesha’s age.

​

We just cannot get our heads around what happened.

​

Consequently, the club have announced that both Airdrie and Livingston will wear black armbands in memory of Alesha before tomorrow’s Betfred Cup Match. A minutes silence will also take place before kick-off as a mark of respect.

​

In addition, players from the Under 20’s will hold a bucket collection at all stairwells prior to kick-off, with all funds donated going to the family.

​

For those who cannot make the match, but would like to contribute, an online donation page has been started by the fans and the Supporters' Trust.

​

A charity match will also take place at the stadium on August 4, and we will share details when we have them. The club and stadium company will donate the park free of charge to help with the fundraising.

​

No one at the club can comprehend the pain and suffering that the parents and family are going through at this sad time. No amount of money will ever take away the pain. But we can only try to help in this small way.
