Reserves season kicks off this evening

September 10, 2018

The Diamonds second-string get their season underway this evening with a home match against East Kilbride.

The Reserve League 2 fixtures, which replace the Development League, kicked off last week but Airdrie were the free team in the first round of matches.

Under the guidance of coaches James Grant, Mick McFaulds and Graham Scott, a talented young squad has been assembled ahead of the league campaign. The Reserves have been put through their paces with an intensive pre-season calendar which began with a narrow 2-1 defeat to West Calder Juniors at the beginning of August, with Patrick Pyott grabbing the Diamonds' goal. Another loss (5-3) to Chester FC U18s followed, with Scott Thomson grabbing a hat-trick. Thomson was on the scoresheet again as the Diamonds drew 1-1 with Lanark United before the reserves notched up two high-scoring victories.

August 31 saw a  7-0 win over Edusport Academy U20s, with Fraser Scott (2), Yusuf Bamba (2), Scott Thomson, Craig Truesdale and Grant Brennan all finding the net. Another 7-goal haul followed on September 5 with a 7-3 victory against Royal Albert. Scott Thomson (4), Patrick Pyott, Yusuf Bamba and Grant Brennan were the Airdrie scorers.

Tonight's opening league fixture kicks off at the Penny Cars Stadium at 7:30pm. Admission is free of charge this evening. A full list of the Reserve fixtures can be found here and you can follow the side's fortunes on Twitter @AirdrieoniansFC.
