Scott Robertson is looking forward to a return to Stranraer on Saturday, but the former Blues captain is firmly focussed on a win for the Diamonds.

 

The big defender spent five years at Stair Park before joining Airdrie this summer, and this weekend marks his first return to the south-west.

 

Goals from Leighton McIntosh and Joao Victoria gave the Diamonds a 2-0 win when the sides met at the Penny Cars Stadium back in September, but tomorrow’s trip comes on the back of home defeats to Stenhousemuir and Forfar Athletic.

 

It’s been a frustrating couple of weeks for Robertson.

 

“Looking at last week, I thought we played reasonably well in the first half to be honest.

 

“We missed a couple of chances, and I think at the moment we need to be taking those chances to get us ahead and give us confidence.

 

“It’s human nature that if you’re not playing great or you’re not getting ahead in games, you’re going to deepen a bit the longer the game goes on.”

 

The two narrow defeats have seen Airdrie slip to seventh in the League One standings, but Robertson feels that the table is still too tight to start worrying.

 

“Everyone still believes that we’ve got a good enough team to put a run together. There are teams in the league who haven’t done that yet, whereas the likes of Arbroath and East Fife have gone on really good runs.

 

“This is the type of league where you can fly up the table with a few good results - it’s still ridiculously close just now.”

 

With Airdrie’s away form proving better than their home record this season, Saturday’s trip to Stranraer will be seen as the perfect opportunity to kick off that run. Robertson predicts an exciting encounter.

 

“It’ll be tough down there, Stranraer are usually pretty good at home and have been for quite a few years. It’s a tighter pitch than ours, which to be honest I think could suit us.

 

“When they came here they matched us formation-wise, we both played 3-5-2 that day - but no matter how we line up on Saturday, I’m sure they’ll go at us. It should be a good game.”

 

Despite a return to the ground he called home for five years, Scott only has one priority this weekend.

 

“I enjoyed my time there and I’m looking forward to seeing some old faces. There are a lot of people around the club that I didn’t see when we played them here.

 

“It’ll be nice to go back, but hopefully I’ll be leaving with three points.”

 

Manager Ian Murray is ready for his first away game in charge of the Diamonds.

 

“It’ll be a difficult game again. It’s a small park down there, and we’re meeting them after they’ve picked up a good win against Stenhousemuir.

 

“We’re more than capable of going down there and winning, that’s for sure. It would be the ideal time to get back on track with the next game being at home.”

 

Goalkeeper Scott Gallacher aside, Airdrie are expected to have a fully fit squad for the trip to Stair Park.
