Kyle Wilkie is hoping for a repeat performance against Dumbarton after Airdrie’s recent 3-0 win over the Sons.

 

Wilkie grabbed a double as the Diamonds triumphed in the William Hill Scottish Cup third round match, and it’s been a prolific few weeks for the attacking midfielder - who was voted Airdrie’s player of the month for November after bagging four goals from the number 10 role.

 

He told airdriefc.com: “It’s been a good month for me, I knew I just needed a run of games to get my confidence up.

 

“I’d probably say I’m playing in my best position now, that’s where I get most of my success and I feel more comfortable in that area.”

 

Airdrie’s run of three wins came to an end last week as the Diamonds went down 2-0 at Raith Rovers, but Wilkie isn’t too disheartened by the result.

 

“We started the game well, even when we went behind - but as soon as Raith got their second goal they started playing the ball about with more confidence and we found it tough to get back in.

 

“The defeat came from a couple of mistakes, but I don’t think it’s anything to be concerned about. Other than that, we’ve been doing well.”

 

As Ian Murray’s squad prepare to travel to the C&G Systems Stadium this weekend, comparison’s will inevitably be made with the recent cup tie.

 

Wilkie’s brace, either side of a Darryl Duffy strike, gave Airdrie a home win that day, but the 27-year-old expects another challenge in Saturday’s League One encounter.

 

“It’ll be a different game. They got a good result last week, so they’ll be up for it and they’ll want to get us back for beating them last time.

 

“Having said that, we’re up for it too. We’re all playing well just now and I don’t think last week should dent our confidence.”

 

Ian Murray agrees that his side will have to be at their best on Saturday.

 

“It’s the second meeting in three weeks, which is unusual, but that means we know we’re in for another tough game.

 

“They’re coming into the game on the back of a good result, and we had a poor one - but we go there with confidence and we know that if we win it’ll be a good three points.”

 

The Diamonds boss rates Scott Robertson as a fitness doubt after the defender picked up a leg knock in midweek. Scott Gallacher is Airdrie’s only other absentee.
