Young stars sign senior contracts
June 5, 2018
We are delighted to announce that five members of last season's successful U20s side have tonight agreed senior contracts with the club.
Defender Robbie Leighton, midfielders Grant Brennan, Lewis Gracie, and Craig Truesdale, and striker Scott Thomson were all at the Penny Cars stadium to put pen to paper this evening.
With the Development Leagues being replaced by a National Reserve League from next season, reserve team coach James Grant is pleased that the boys can continue their development with the Diamonds.
"I'm delighted that the boys have signed up, they're all great prospects.
"The reserve league will be a tough proposition for the players and coaches alike, and it's a great platform for these guys to push for a place in the first team.
Fellow reserve team coach Mick McFaulds added: "The boys have all done well up to this stage - Scott and Robbie have already had a taste of first team football, and Scott captained the U20s side while Craig picked up the Player of the Year award.
"Their versatility will stand them in good stead - Robbie can also play in midfield, Craig can also play in defence, and Grant can also play up front.
"Along with the experience they'll pick up playing against seasoned pros in the reserves, this gives them all a great chance to push on."
