Dale Carrick wants to give Airdrie fans the performance they deserve when the Diamonds take on Forfar Athletic this weekend.

The striker is disappointed with a poor result against Stenhousemuir last Saturday, and said he and his team-mates have upped the ante in training this week in an effort to make amends.

"Training this week has been high-intensity to approach the game on Saturday.

​

"After a disappointing game last weekend, which was very flat and lacked quality, we want to get back to winning ways against Forfar tomorrow."

​

The game marks new manager Ian Murray's second outing as Airdrie boss, and the Diamonds squad are aiming to impress their new gaffer with places up for grabs.

​

Carrick says the onus is always on him as a forward anyway.

​

"As a striker you are always going to be under pressure to score goals - that's why we're here.

​

"If I'm not scoring goals I'm helping the side by creating opportunities for my team-mates."

​

An impressive win for Jim Weir's Loons saw them leapfrog Airdrie into fourth place last weekend, but a win on Saturday would see the Diamonds back in a play-off position.

​

With a long way to go in the league campaign, Carrick's motivation is simple.

​

"Every game is huge for us. I think the main priority is to concentrate solely on each game as they come instead of getting mixed up in thinking that we must do this or that to get into the play-off position."

​

Airdrie and Forfar met at Station Park on the opening day of the season, a meeting which saw Airdrie return from Angus with three points after rallying late in the game.

​

Dale Hilson put the Loons in front four minutes before the interval, but midfielder Ryan Conroy grabbed an 80th minute equaliser before quick goals from substitutes Leighton McIntosh and Joao Victoria secured the win for the Diamonds.

​

Both sides have suffered from inconsistent form since the August meeting, but Forfar moved above Airdrie in the table last weekend with Hilson, Dylan Easton and Mark Hill giving the Loons an impressive 3-2 win over Raith Rovers.

​

Meanwhile Airdrie slipped up at home to Stenhousemuir, losing to Mark McGuigan's late strike. Dale wants to make up for a disappointing result.

​

"Saturday's game is one we want to win to rectify last week's result, but we know that will be no easy task as Forfar are coming here off the back of a good win against Raith.

​

"We're at home, and we need to take the game to them. The fans deserve a performance after last week's poor result."

​

Diamonds boss Ian Murray wants his side to kick off an improved run of form.

​

"It's one of those leagues where anything can happen, but we want to be the team that can put a wee run together now.

​

"We've not had that yet - and there will be a time that we'll do that."

​

Scott Gallacher remains the only absentee for Airdrie. The goalkeeper underwent cruciate ligament surgery this week and may face the rest of this season on the sidelines.
