Striker McIntosh agrees terms

May 30, 2018

We are pleased to announce that former Arbroath forward Leighton McIntosh has agreed terms with the club.

The 25-year-old, who can play as a winger as well as his more natural centre-forward position, spent the second half of last season at Gayfield following spells with Dundee, Peterhead and UMF Selfoss in Iceland. He has also represented Scotland at Under-19 level.

Putting pen to paper on a one-year deal at the newly-renamed Penny Cars Stadium this evening, Leighton explained why he was keen to sign for the Diamonds.

“I really liked what Stevie had to say and the plans that he had put in place. At my age I’m looking to push on and be part of a team that can gain promotion - I feel like Airdrie are building a squad that are more than capable of doing that.

“As for targets - I was happy with ten goals in half a season with Arbroath, so if I can double that over a whole season I’ll be more than happy!”

Manager Stevie Findlay was pleased to further strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.

“At the end of the season we sat down and looked at the areas we needed to strengthen, and I’m delighted to get someone of Leighton’s quality to boost our attacking options.

“Leighton’s different to our other strikers, he’s very dynamic and he’s got great feet for such a big lad.

“To be a success next season we’re going to have to score goals and make sure we’re not conceding goals - I’ve brought in players who I believe will help us to do that. We’ve got healthy competition throughout the squad now, and that can only be a good thing.”
