"Workies" joins the club

September 21, 2017

We are happy to announce the Airdrie Working Mens club as our second new club partner this season.

Founded in 1869 by Henry C. Deedes Esq., AWSC is ideally situated in Airdrie town centre and has been the hub of entertainment in the Airdrie district for many years. While other clubs have come and gone AWSC has managed to weather the storm of recession and is still going strong.

Open seven days a week it provides a wide range of entertainment for its 1,400 members. There is something for everyone including dancing, cabaret, karaoke, dance classes and quizzes. Facilities like Snooker, Pool and Darts are also available.

They have a  Main Function Hall, Lesser Function Hall and Lounge, all of which are available for hire for weddings, birthdays and other celebrations. These can be hired FREE OF CHARGE to Airdrie season ticket holders and staff! The main hall has seating for up to 250 people making it ideal for all types of social gatherings such as weddings, anniversaries, birthdays etc. It also has a sizeable stage that overlooks a large dance floor making it an ideal venue for live music. The main hall also has its own bar facility and separate cocktail lounge. The Lesser Function Hall at the end of the corridor can accommodate up to 120 people which makes it ideal for small social functions, while the Lounge can accommodate up to 80 people which makes it ideal for smaller social events such as quiz nights, meetings and smaller receptions. It boasts a large projector screen and three TVs.

The bar downstairs has two large screen TVs, ample seating, and its own darts area, while upstairs the snooker room has three full size tables and plenty of seating for spectators.

The club takes pride in its efforts to raise money for local charities. These include MacMillan Nurses, Marie Curie, and Airdrie Hospice. Various events are held throughout the year to raise money.

There is a one off joining fee of £11, then a yearly membership of the club is £14 (£5 for OAPs). The one off joining fee of £11 will however be FREE for Season Ticket Holders, as will function hall hire.

Club committee member Bobby Clark was on hand to meet Kieran McDonald and Adam Brown earlier in the week. Bobby said: "We have a long association with Airdrieonians. We have many members who have supported the Diamonds for years, and would love to see more fans coming down to see what facilities we have to offer.

"We have hosted club events for decades, from fans meetings to fundraisers for the Academy, and will be hosting "An Evening with Frank Bruno" in November and the Airdrie Masters Darts tournament in April for the Supporters Trust."

Membership forms and further information are available from the bar, or alternatively, further information is available by phoning 01236 762918, emailing info@airdrieworkmens.co.uk, or visiting the website www.airdrieworkmens.co.uk
