Diamond Darryl makes Excelsior return

May 21, 2018

We are delighted to welcome striker Darryl Duffy back to the club.

The 34-year-old agreed terms after leaving St Mirren at the end of the season, having spent the second half of the campaign on loan at the Excelsior, picking up the club’s goal of the season award.

The popular striker can’t wait to pull on the Diamond again.

“It was an easy decision after working with Stevie and Fitzy last year. Unfortunately my loan spell was cut short by injury, but until then I’d loved it and felt really comfortable here.

“I was starting to hit the ground running so I wanted to come back and continue that.

“The ambition shown by the signings so far has been very positive, and going part-time allows me to start looking to the future after football. It’s a win-win.”

Manager Stephen Findlay was delighted to get his man.

“When I spoke to Darryl in January about coming here, he very much bought into the long-term vision for the club. We made him an offer as soon as the season was over, and it’s superb to get him here.

“He’s an absolutely outstanding professional, and he was really coming to prominence before his injury. You can see the affection that the fans have for him, and I’m looking forward to seeing that continue.”

Darryl’s return was announced on social media as Findlay and first-team coach David Proctor revealed their new recruit in a video message to young Diamonds fan Rhys Mason, who is currently receiving treatment in hospital. Everyone at the club join Stevie, David and Darryl in wishing Rhys a very speedy recovery. Get well soon!
