Preview: Airdrieonians vs Alloa Athletic

March 20, 2018

Willie Muir wants a win and a clean sheet against Alloa tonight as the Diamonds keeper looks to play his way into next season’s plans.

Muir (25) has featured between the sticks in each of Airdrie’s last three matches after joining from Queen’s Park in January.

The goalkeeper is loving life at Excelsior Stadium, and wants that to extend beyond his current deal.

“I’m really enjoying my time at the club, it’s been a good start.

“Hopefully with Rohan moving on at the end of the season, I’ll be able to prove my worth and win a longer deal.

“I just need to keep working away and hopefully it will come.”

Muir has already turned in three confident displays in the number one shirt, making some impressive saves at Alloa on Saturday - including one particularly acrobatic stop just before half time.

The match at the Indodrill was the first of two meetings in four days between the clubs, and Muir felt a draw was the right outcome ahead of the return meeting this evening.

“It was probably a fair result. It was an eventful match with chances for both sides, so I’m sure both teams would have been disappointed not to win.

“I thought we were brilliant in spells, and that's how it's been in recent games. If we go out tonight and play that way for the full game, there’s no reason we can’t win the three points - hopefully with a clean sheet!”

A win in this evening’s rearranged fixture would see Airdrie leapfrog Stranraer into sixth place.

The match will be referee Scott Millar’s third Airdrie tie of the season. The whistler previously officiated August’s 1-1 draw with Arbroath and the 2-0 win over Ayr in December.

Kick off at Excelsior Stadium is at 7:45pm.
