Willis Furtado admits he's facing the unknown when Airdrie visit Arbroath on Saturday, but the Diamonds attacker is confident he can continue his scoring form.

French-Portuguese frontman Furtado has played as an out-and-out striker for the last few Airdrie matches, and his determination in the role has been rewarded with goals in each of his last two games.

​

The former Stenhousemuir ace is pleased to have joined the Diamonds.

​

"I'm enjoying being an Airdrie player - we're a good team with a lot of good boys.

 

"I'm happy to be here."

​

Furtado earned rave reviews in his first season in Scotland, although some dazzling displays couldn't prevent the Ochilview side facing relegation to League Two.

​

Deployed as a winger with Stenny, the 20-year-old has shown his versatility in a striking role for his new club.

​

"I like playing up front, but I think I'm better on the wing.

 

"I'm happy playing any position!"

​

After a few disappointing results, the Diamonds have shown improvement with a strong win over Queen's Park and a 2-2 draw at the home of high-flying Ayr United.

​

 

Furtado feels the team are on an upward trajectory.

​

"I think we can climb the table and finish in a much higher position. Our play is improving, we just need to keep scoring more goals.

​

"My personal objective is to score 15 goals this season, so I'm on the way already."

​

Willis and his team-mates travel north to Arbroath on Saturday as they begin the second quarter of the league season.

​

The sides played out a 1-1 draw at New Broomfield in August, Omar Kader giving the Red Lichties a first half lead before Andy Ryan's curler levelled matters.

​

Dick Campbell's men have exceeded expectations since their promotion from League Two, sitting in fourth place after notching up some impressive victories in the first quarter.

​

Willis is looking forward to his first visit to Gayfield.

​

"I don't know much about Arbroath, I've never played against them.

​

"I'll just do my best and play my own game. I'm feeling good, so I hope I can get another goal to help us win the game."

​

First team coach Stevie Findlay wants to build on two good results in recent weeks.

​

"I'm expecting another tough game. Obviously we want to build on the performances against Queen's Park and Ayr, it's important we build on that momentum.

​

"It'll be hard up there, but we're capable of going and getting something out of the game.

 

"We're going there with the mindset of coming back with three points, but we know it'll be tough."

​

Marc Fitzpatrick and Adam Brown remain sidelined for the Diamonds. Defender David Brownlie (ankle) and goalkeeper Matthew Kerr (knee) will also miss the trip to Gayfield, but Jordan McGregor has recovered from an ankle knock picked up against Ayr United.
