Diamonds snap up midfield ace Gallagher

May 18, 2018

We are delighted to announce that former Stranraer and Dumbarton midfielder Grant Gallagher has agreed terms with the club.

The 27-year-old joined the Blues from Celtic in 2010, following manager Stephen Aitken to the Sons in 2015.

Speaking as he signed a one-year deal in the Excelsior boardroom this evening, Gallagher told  “I’m delighted. As soon as Stevie phoned me it was something that interested me straight away. He deserves credit for the way the deal was handled, and that helped to make my mind up quickly.

“I’ve come back twice from two different injuries, and haven’t had any problems since. I’m just looking forward to getting back to playing football.”

With the club moving quickly to start putting next season’s squad together, Grant believes he can achieve his aspirations with the Diamonds.

“League One sides always tend to be doing rebuilding jobs at this stage, and Airdrie have been impressive in their business so far. Whenever I’ve been involved at this level, I’ve always been in the top four, and I’m looking to continue that.”

Delighted manager Stephen Findlay added: “It’s a brilliant signing, it’s outstanding to get someone of Grant’s calibre here. He’s a dynamic midfielder with a tremendous amount of experience in the game, and although he’s been unfortunate with injuries in the last couple of years he’s well over those now.

“He can play in the holding role or as an attacking midfielder, and he’ll give us energy in the middle of the park. He’s a good solid professional with a magnificent attitude as well - if he hadn’t had his injury problems I think he’d certainly be playing in the Premiership or at the top end of the Championship.

“For us to get him here at a pivotal point in his career is fantastic - I think he’ll be good for us and we’ll be good for him. It’s great to get him on board and I’m looking forward to working alongside him.”
