Conroy and MacDonald pen new deals

March 8, 2018

Ryan Conroy and Kieran MacDonald have become the latest Diamonds stars to extend their contracts with the club.

Midfielder Conroy and defender MacDonald both checked in to the Excelsior boardroom before tonight's training session, putting pen to paper on two year extensions to their current deals.

Diamonds boss Stevie Findlay looked on as his plans for the future continue to gather momentum, and he told airdriefc.com how pleased he was to see the commitment shown by two important players.

"I'm absolutely delighted to get Ryan and Kieran tied up.

"Ryan's going to be very important to the style of football we want to play going forward - I don't think we've seen the best of Ryan Conroy in an Airdrie jersey yet.

"Before his injury, Ryan played a pivotal role in a very young team and I think he'll come to the fore as we continue to strengthen the squad. He's a quality player, technically very gifted, and we'll look to get the best out of him.

"We talked at the Q&A night about how we had identified certain players in terms of the long-term picture, and Kieran absolutely fits that bill.

"He's been outstanding since I came back to the club, often playing in an unfamiliar position, and he's great around the club - he's one of those guys that everybody in the changing room loves.

"At 24 years of age, I think Kieran can now push on and make himself really important at this football club."

MacDonald himself sees a bright future ahead.

"It's exciting to have signed up to be part of what's happening here.

"The ambition shown by the club, and Stevie's vision of where he wants us to be, made it an easy decision for me."

And 30-year-old midfielder Conroy was equally enthusiastic about signing on the dotted line.

"The last few months have been frustrating in terms of injury, so I'm very pleased to have extended my contract - now I can just get my head down and get on with it for the next couple of years!

"I'm back in training now, so things are moving in the right direction for myself as well as the club in general. I didn't have to think twice about signing."
