Tom Fry wants to start turning draws into wins when Airdrie travel to Forfar on Saturday.

 

The midfielder put pen to paper on a contract extension in December as the club moved into a January transfer window which saw seven new faces join up at New Broomfield.

 

“I’m really pleased to have extended my contract - obviously now it’s about getting back in the team so I can start chipping in with goals and assists to help us push for the promotion play-offs.”

 

“It’s important to have the depth in the squad that we now have.

 

“If you look at the start of the season, we had a very inexperienced side, but we’re now bringing in boys who have played a lot of games. That will help the younger guys, and having a bigger, stronger squad will help everyone improve.”

 

The new look Airdrie squad travel to Station Park to take on Forfar Athletic on Saturday - a side who have also undergone major changes since the season started.

 

Former Diamonds boss Gary Bollan parted company with the Angus club in September, and new boss Jim Weir’s overhaul of the squad has seen the departure of ex-Airdrie players Simon Mensing and David Cox, as well as striker Jim Lister who called time on his playing career after an injury.

 

Airdrie played their first league game of the season at Station Park, losing 2-1. It was also Fry’s first game for the Diamonds.

“I’m looking forward to going back - I played my first game for Airdrie up there as a trialist. It wasn’t the best result that day, and it was the worst rain I’ve ever experienced!

 

“Hopefully we can go up there and get three points - we’ve had a lot of draws lately and we need to start turning them into wins. With the new faces in the squad, I’m expecting us to go up there and put in a good performance.”

 

First team coach Stevie Findlay is predicting an exciting afternoon after Forfar’s recent form lifted them from the foot of the table.

 

“It goes without saying it’s a very important game for us in terms of where both teams are in the league and the form that both teams are in.

 

“They’ve won their last two, and we’ve only lost one in eight - so it’s got all the makings of a great game, and we see it as one where we’ve got to turn the tide and get a win.”

 

Jordan McGregor is suspended for Airdrie after seeing red against Arbroath last weekend.

 

Referee David Lowe was in charge of Airdrie’s 0-0 draw with East Fife last month. He was also the man in the middle when the Diamonds won the first Monklands derby of the season.
