Marc Fitzpatrick believes Peterhead's position at the foot of the table is a false one, but the attitude shown by the Diamonds against Alloa can see them grab another three points.

The skipper was moved back into midfield as Airdrie travelled to the Indodrill Stadium two weeks ago, having featured in a central defensive role in recent weeks.

​

The resultant display saw a more solid looking Diamonds side, and great goals from Andy Ryan and Ryan Conroy ensured a 2-1 victory over the then table-toppers.

Fitzpatrick was pleased with the performance.

​

"To go to the league leaders and get an away win was brilliant for us, especially after disappointing against Albion Rovers.

​

"I think everybody needed it. The fans needed it and the players needed it.

​

"We knew we were going to be up against a team who were flying, so we were a bit more defensive-minded, and playing 4-4-2 kept us solid."

​

From an encouraging result against the team at the top of the league, the Diamonds now face a home tie against the side at the bottom - Peterhead.

​

According to Fitzpatrick, the Balmoor side's current status is a surprising one.

​

"Their squad are better than that, and I'd be shocked if they were there at the end of the season.

​

So there's no danger of complacency from Kevin McBride's troops then? No way, says Fitzy.

​

"We're not expecting an easy game - I don't think any team in this league give you that.

​

"It's been proven time and again that if you think you're facing an easier game, there's every chance you'll get found out.

​

"We need to go into this game with the same attitude we showed against Alloa and I think we'll be alright."

​

Head coach McBride added: "We've shown from the start of the season that we have attacking players who can hurt teams, and we showed at Alloa that if we can make ourselves hard to beat, we will win games."

​

The Diamonds have no injury worries ahead of the 5:15pm kick, which is being televised on BBC Alba.

​

Despite the Blue Toon's lowly league position, striker Rory McAllister continues to bang in the goals with nine so far this season. Former Airdrie players Jamie Stevenson, Nathan Blockley and Stefan McLuskey may feature for Jim McInally's men.
