Stenhousemuir preview
9th December 2016
Sean McIntosh was delighted to net his first senior goal last weekend - and hopes the Diamonds can carry on their winning form against Stenhousemuir.
Versatile midfielder McIntosh has featured more in defence this season, but the 19-year-old got on the scoresheet as the Diamonds won 4-2 at Peterhead.
The former Celtic youth star was pleased with the team performance.
"We didn't start the game very well, but we found ourselves 3-0 up after 20 minutes!
"It was a good overall performance, we pressed high and it paid off."
McIntosh grabbed the second Airdrie goal from a corner kick, and he was pleased to break his duck.
"It felt great to get my first senior goal. Obviously that was something I wanted to tick off.
"Now that I've got it I'm hoping that I can go on to get many more."
Attention now turns to this weekend's visit of Stenhousemuir as the Diamonds attempt to extend their winning run to seven league games on the bounce.
The sides have met twice already this season with Airdrie 2-1 winners in a Betfred Cup tie in July before a late equaliser earned the Warriors a 2-2 draw at Ochilview a month later.
The Larbert men may be languishing at the foot of the table as Airdrie joust for top spot, but Brown Ferguson's side have always proven to be a tough obstacle for the Diamonds.
Sean hopes that won't be a factor on Saturday.
"Some might say they're our bogey team. We're not going into the game expecting it to be easy, because it never is against Stenhousemuir - but if we keep playing the way we've been playing, we should be fine.
"We've won six games in a row because we've been performing to a high standard. We just need to carry that on and not let it drop.
"We've got a good squad of players and we're playing good football. We've got to go into this game with confidence and hopefully get another three points."
Head coach Mark Wilson added: "I believe we have the quality within our squad to go and punish teams but it’s important that we take our chances when we get them - as well as being aware of Stenhousemuir’s attacking threat going forward."
Scott Stewart continues to be monitored after missing the trip to Peterhead with an ankle injury. Marc Fitzpatrick remains sidelined with ligament damage.
Referee Mat Northcroft makes his second visit to New Broomfield this season, having refereed Livingston's 4-2 league win over Airdrie in August.
