Jack McKay can't wait to play at Hampden Park, and the on-loan striker says his new Diamonds team-mates are confident of getting back on track.

Leeds United hitman Jack has joined Airdrie on loan until the end of the season, but didn't have the easiest of debuts as the Diamonds went down to local rivals Albion Rovers.

Despite the result, he's happy with how he's settling in at the club.

​

"It's great, all the lads are really welcoming. It can be a worry when you move to a new club and you don't know anyone but everyone's welcomed me in, they're a great set of lads."

​

McKay played 81 minutes of Monday's derby match and showed some nice touches up top alongside Andy Ryan.

​

The 20-year-old was pleased to get his Diamonds debut under his belt, but was disappointed with the result.

​

"It was a hard game. I thought we dominated the first half but it was Albion Rovers who went ahead and they were then hard to break down."

​

After spending ten years in the Doncaster Rovers youth system, McKay is ready to make his mark at Leeds United, and he feels his time at Airdrie can help him to achieve that aim.

​

"I need to get some first team experience. It's good playing Under 23s football down South, but it's not the same. In competitive first team football it's all about getting the three points and the winning mentality that brings.

​

 

"Obviously I'm here to help Airdrie achieve their aim, which is promotion to the Championship."

​

Airdrie face a trip to the Southside of Glasgow on Saturday against a Queen's Park side who have shown impressive form in recent weeks.

​

Jack can't wait to make his Hampden bow.

​

"I'm really looking forward to it. Before I came up I looked at the fixtures and that game was one that jumped out!

​

"It's clear already that there are no easy games in this league, but we're confident we can get back to winning ways."

​

Head Coach Mark Wilson reiterated his side's desire to make up for Monday's result.

​

"Again, it's another tough test for us, as every game in this league is proving to be for everyone.

​

"The positive thing is the game has come pretty quickly after the disappointing result on Monday. We created enough chances to have easily won the game, so although we're disappointed to have lost it's good to have an early chance to bounce back."

​

The Diamonds boss welcomes back Kyle Hutton (suspension) and Jack Leitch (chest infection), although Scott Stewart (illness) is still struggling.

​

Conor Scullion's loan period expired this week, and the midfielder returns to Hamilton with our thanks and best wishes for the future.

​

Graham Beaton referees the Hampden tie. His only previous Airdrie match this season was the 1-1 home draw with East Fife in September.
