Jordan McGregor wants to make a good impression during his loan spell at Airdrie - by helping the team to promotion.

The Hamilton defender joined the Diamonds on a deal lasting till the end of the season, and the 19-year-old is enjoying himself so far.

​

"It's good to be on loan at a full time club. I was happy to go out on loan, I spent some time at Berwick last year and I got a lot of game time there.

​

"I'm enjoying playing first-team football, and hopefully there will be no more injuries for the rest of the season!

​

"I'm here to impress both teams - Airdrie and Hamilton - and I want to play my part in getting Airdrie into the play-offs and getting promoted."

​

McGregor picked up an ankle injury on his Airdrie debut against Peterhead, missing the following game against Livingston, but returned to the starting 11 last weekend at Alloa.

​

With a win and a defeat already under his belt, he told us how he felt those matches went.

​

"I thought I started well in the Peterhead game, it's a shame I picked up an injury and that knocked my confidence a bit.

​

"Against Alloa we started really poorly, but after that I felt we dominated them.

​

 

"There's a good bunch of boys in the squad and I feel like we can push for promotion easily."

​

Stranraer visit the Excelsior on Saturday and Airdrie will be looking to make it three wins out of three against them this season.

​

Top scorer Andy Ryan netted the winner on both occasions, grabbing the only goal of the game at New Broomfield in August and turning home a 77th minute Christmas Eve winner at Stair Park after Adam Brown and Stranraer's Scott Agnew had scored.

​

The Blues have undergone a change in the dug-out since then, with Stephen Farrell taking over the manager's role after Brian Reid left the club in January.

​

With a number of new players also joining up at both clubs, it's likely to be a different match this time round.

Jordan feels that the Diamonds should be favourites if they right the wrongs from Saturday's 2-1 defeat at the Indodrill.

​

"We just need to start better. Alloa came out and started the game pressing us, and that's what we need to do on Saturday. We need to play the game in their half instead of our own half.

​

"The first goal is massive, if we get that we're not chasing the game. It would be nice to get a clean sheet as well.

​

"If we play like we can, we should be 100% confident."

​

Head coach Mark Wilson agrees that only an improved performance will do.

​

"We know about the players they’ve brought in, and we know the manager well, so we’ll know what to expect and hopefully we can put on a better performance than the last two."

​

Ryan Conroy remains sidelined through suspension after his red card against Livingston, but the Airdrie boss has an otherwise full strength squad to choose from.

​​

Referee Craig Charleston is back at New Broomfield for a third time this season, having previously refereed the August victory over Stranraer and the recent 4-1 win against Peterhead.
