Airdrieonians vs Albion Rovers preview

30th October 2015

Scott Stewart says the Airdrie squad are determined to make amends for last week's Peterhead horrorshow - with a Halloween victory over derby rivals Albion Rovers.

Darren Young's Rovers side moved above the Diamonds last weekend with a win at troubled Brechin - who this week drew a trip to New Broomfield in the Scottish Cup third round.

Meanwhile Airdrie were going down 2-0 at Balmoor, and Stewart says the result was fair, but nobody in the Diamonds' camp is accepting the dismal display.

"The boys were all angry in the dressing room because we felt the performance didn't merit us getting anything from the game.

"We're determined to make up for it on Saturday."

It's the first Monklands derby at New Broomfield this season, with the early meeting seeing Airdrie claim the points at Cliftonhill.

Stewart, son of Diamonds legend Sandy, is no stranger to the importance of a win over our Coatbridge rivals.

"We know how important this is for the fans.

"Hopefully we can produce the same result as earlier in the season when we played them away.

"It is massive game as we're looking to get a win and challenge at the top end of the table.

"They leapfrogged us last week, and we are looking to do likewise this week by getting the three points."

Midfielder Scott Smith and striker Jim Lister are still on the treatment table for the Diamonds.

Colin Steven is the man in the middle for the big derby clash.

Don't forget tomorrow is Halloween... and there are prizes up for grabs for the best dressed Heroes and Villains supporting both the Diamonds and the Rovers.

The fun starts at 1:30pm with plenty of activities for young fans of both teams, then the Diamond Dancers will put on a special spooky display before kick-off!

The best costumes will be judged by a member of the Airdrie first team, and there are great prizes to be won. Further details will be announced at the game!
