Danny: Diamonds will give you everything

28th March 2016

By ANDREW WILSON

Airdrieonians’ Acting Head Coach Danny Lennon has told the Diamonds faithful: It’s in our hands and our players will give every shred they have to make the play-offs.

There was frustration on Saturday as the home side were held 1-1 by Albion Rovers at New Broomfield after a late Ally Love equaliser cancelled out Marc Fitzpatrick’s 55th minute wonder strike.

Afterwards Danny told airdriefc.com: “We are bursting a gut to try and finish in that last play-off position.

“There will be twists and turns between now and the end of the season but we are doing everything in our power to improve and kick on.”

With five games remaining Saturday’s trip to Stranraer is now a huge match with Brian Reid’s side three points ahead of the Diamonds in fourth but having played a game more.

A repeat of the 3-1 win at Stair Park back in December could put us back in the play-off driving seat with rivals Rovers hosting newly-crowned League One champions Dunfermline.

And Danny reasoned: “Now we find ourselves with the ball in our court. We know that if we continue to work hard and focus on improvement good things can happen.

“By the end of the season we will have earned the right to challenge ourselves against the bigger teams but we must focus. There is still a long way to go.”

Danny also took time to pay tribute to Saturday’s goalscorer and Diamonds captain Fitzy after the draw.

He revealed:  “Marc has really impressed me since I’ve taken over. He has a work ethic and leadership qualities second to none.

“He’s a fantastic asset to have in our dressing room and will probably be vital as we kick on and aim for fourth place.”
