Liam Watt edged in front of Bryan Prunty in the Airdrieonians scoring stakes on Saturday but he admitted: I couldn’t have done it without him!
The 22-year-old midfielder grabbed his sixth of the season to secure a point in the 1-1 draw with Stranraer.
Prunts is a goal behind on five but top scorer Liam told airdriefc.com: “When I came on I just had to do as well as I could and help the team. I’m glad I managed to get the goal and help the team to a draw.
“It was a good flick on by Prunts and I just gambled with the run and waited, then at the right time I managed to put it past the goalie.”
Our DiamondsTV highlights show Liam was well onside as he profited from a deft header from fans’ favourite Bryan.
And he said: “It was a great flick and to be honest Bryan has still got it, he’s still a better finisher than me!”
After coming off the bench and netting such an important goal Liam is more focused than ever and is working hard to improve as a player.
Watt’s main priority in training this week will be trying to win his place in Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black’s starting 11 for the home clash with Ayr United on Saturday.
He stressed: “I just want to do the best I can for myself and the team. Hopefully today was good enough to get me back into the starting 11 next week.”
Liam also took the time to briefly look forward to next season when the club will go full-time.
He said: “Full-time football would be great for me next season. It’s a great prospect for everyone at the club, we’re all happy to have a shot at going full-time.”
