Eddie Wolecki Black takes the reins

22nd December 2015

Airdrieonians FC are today delighted to announce the appointment of Eddie Wolecki Black as the Club’s new Head Coach.

Eddie - who has signed a two and a half year contract which runs until May 2018 - moves up from the role of Director of Coaching that he has flourished in since joining the club earlier this season.

He will have full control of all football matters at the Club and will be assisted in first team matters by player-coach Kevin McBride and Donald Jennow.

The new coaching team will be in the dugout for the Boxing Day home clash with Peterhead and Eddie said: “I am proud to be the new Head Coach of Airdrieonians FC and thrilled to have the chance to take the club forward now.

“Coming into the Club as Director of Coaching was a remit I was delighted with when I arrived here.

“We have been making great headway there with the coaches and the players and that work will continue at pace because it is vital.

“I was engrossed in that so to be asked to take over the reins when Gary moved to Forfar Athletic earlier this week was a surprise but it is a task I am relishing now.

“I’ve been lucky enough to see the vast bulk of the first team’s games this season and I know the talent there is in our squad.”

Club chairman Tom Wotherspoon broke the mould when he appointed Eddie as a full-time Director of Coaching for a League One club.

He sees the promotion to Head Coach to replace Gary Bollan after he departed for Forfar Athletic as a natural progression.

And he said: “When I sat down to think who we should appoint I didn’t go beyond the first name I wrote down. Eddie Wolecki Black.

“The reason is that over time it has become clear to me that Eddie and I have very similar views on how a football game should be approached.

“When Eddie joined us three months ago with a brief from me to reorganise our Academy up to and including the Under-20s side.

“What we have now is passing brand of football and a way of coaching that concentrates on possession and developing the players’ confidence when they are in control of the ball.

“Those building blocks are in place now and as Head Coach it is imperative that Eddie continues to have an influence on our coaches and the growth of the players.”

Eddie will be unveiled to the media today at 2:30pm and you can follow the press conference here on airdriefc.com and through our social media channels.
