The Goalie's a Diamond!

18th May 2016

Airdrieonians FC have landed a coup and brought in Rangers and Scotland legend Andy Goram to mentor hot property goalkeeper Rohan Ferguson.

The Goalie, who became a hero to Gers fans in the Nine in a Row era, will help guide 18-year-old Rohan through his first season as the new Diamonds no1 and he is delighted with his appointment.

Goram revealed: “I have done my research on Rohan. I know how good a shotstopper he is and of his ability to play with the ball at his feet.

“He got a taste of the big time last season when he was Man of the Match in the Scottish Cup tie against Dundee United and he is desperate for more of that.

“My job here is to help him realise his potential and I am thrilled that I will be back on a training pitch where I feel I belong.

“I am also very keen to work with the goalkeeping coaches and keepers throughout the Club.

“The move to Ravenscraig and full-time football shows the ambition there is at Airdrieonians now.”

For Rohan - who has signed a two-year contract extension to stay with the Diamonds until May 2018 - the news of Goram’s appointment is a huge boost.

And he smiled: “It will be a privilege to be in the same room as Andy Goram never mind to have him as my coach.

“I can’t wait to get started and learn everything I can from him, he had everything as a keeper.”

The Diamonds double act will get to work in earnest when the team move into their new Ravenscraig training base on Monday June 6 for the start of their pre-season campaign.
