Diamonds' community success story

17th May 2016

One of the heartwarming successes of the season for Airdrieonians FC in the campaign gone by was the Club putting its footprint back into the community we serve.

The Diamond Life coaching programme saw primary schools throughout the town lap up training sessions and showpiece festivals at the Excelsior Stadium.

Airdrieonians also threw themselves into the Get Onside programme alongside the charity Heartfelt and brought some great fun times in the boardroom and on the pitch to those with learning difficulties and mental health issues.

Diamond Life - run with the backing of the Scottish Football Partnership - was brilliantly backed by Krystal Klear, our official Academy water supplier.

Krystal Klear are also the proud jersey sponsor of our Under-17s Academy side who will sport their swish new Under Armour kit for next season.

And Niall Deveney of Krystal Klear said: “When Airdrie showed us the vision for putting the club back in to the community, we were delighted to get involved.

“They really are fantastic initiatives and we’re looking forward to backing them alongside the next generation of stars again next season.”

Currie’s Red Kola threw their support behind Get Onside to quench the thirst of the players after those sessions.

Talks are underway to extend that programme next season and David Rowan of Red Kola said: “It was an easy decision for us to support the Get Onside project and when you see the enjoyment that the participants took away from it then it all becomes worthwhile.”

The culmination of a great year for the Community programmes was the Airdrieonians Supporters’ Trust Schools Festival when 22 primary schools rocked up to the Excelsior for a sunny day of football and fun.

Diamonds players Hugo Faria, Jacob Esposito and Murray Loudon joined Chief Executive Iain King in helping to referee the games.

And the kids were all delighted there was ice cold Krystal Klear on hand to keep them hydrated as our pictures show.
