Our Under 20s held a pool tournament on Sunday 2nd April in Cue Here in Airdrie as a team bonding exercise following the success of last season’s event.

For the tournament 15 members of the squad alongside Manager Kevin McBride, Physio Scott Grant and Youth Team Co-Ordinator Neil "Ceefax" Johnston took part and there was four groups with five people in two of them and four people in the remainder of them and the top two would progress to the quarter finals.

First Round - Group Stages
Group 1 consisted of Nicky Cadden, Kevin McBride, Robbie Leighton and Calvin Cowie and it was manager Kevin McBride who showed all his experience to cruise through the group with three victories and Nicky Cadden won through in second place.

Group 2 consisted of Sean McIntosh, Dean Cairns, Ceefax, Rohan Ferguson and Conor McLaughlin and it was Rohan and Conor who both went through with three wins out of five and to decide who won the group both players played a singles match and it was Rohan who won it to advance as group winner.

Group 3 consisted of Matthew Kerr, Scott Thomson, Murray Loudon and Scott Grant and it was Murray Loudon who won the group with three wins out of three and Scott Grant who won through in second place.

Group 4 consisted of Craig Truesdale, Cameron Russell, Jamie Leslie, Kieron McGrory and Ciaran Reilly and it was the runner up of last season’s event Ciaran Reilly who cruised through with four wins out of four whilst Cameron Russell won through in second place.

 

Quarter Finals
The first quarter final saw the winner of group 1 Kevin McBride take on the runner up of group 2 Conor McLaughlin but once again the experience of manager Kevin McBride shown through and he won through to the semi finals.

The second quarter final saw the winner of group 2 Rohan Ferguson take on the runner up of group 1 Nicky Cadden and it was Rohan who came out on top of the young first team players to progress to the semi finals.

The third quarter final saw the winner of group 3 Murray Loudon take on the runner up of group 4 Cameron Russell and it was Murray who won through to advance to the semi finals.

The final quarter final saw the winner of group 4 Ciaran Reilly take on the runner up of group 3 Scott Grant and it was Ciaran who cruised through to another semi final.

Semi Finals
The first semi final saw the winner of the first quarter final Kevin McBride take on the winner of the third quarter final Murray Loudon however Kevin McBride continued to show good form and won through to the final.

The second semi final saw a battle of the two pre tournament favourites the winner of the second quarter final Rohan Ferguson and the winner of the fourth quarter final Ciaran Reilly and Ciaran was unable to make it back to back finals as Rohan won through to the final.

 

Final
The final between Kevin McBride and Rohan Ferguson proved to be tense but Kevin McBride maintained his 100% unbeaten record and won the tournament to become the second winner of the Under 20s annual pool tournament following the success of former player Reece Lowdon last season.
