Airdrieonians v Forfar Athletic preview

13th February 2015

It's 'Pay What You Can' at Airdrie this Saturday, and the BBC cameras will also be present at New Broomfield as the match with Forfar is broadcast live.

The Diamonds welcome the Angus side, who currently sit second in League One, knowing that every result is now crucial in the chase for a play-off place.

Eight points currently separate Airdrie and fourth-placed Brechin City, although that could change with the rest of the league card kicking off at 3.00pm.

Dick Campbell's Forfar leapfrogged Morton into second last Saturday, beating Peterhead 3-1 in the only match to survive a combination of fixture clashes and weather-related postponements.

The Loons spent much of the early part of the season atop the table, but inconsistent form over the winter saw them drop a few places before climbing back towards the summit.

In the sides' opening clash New Broomfield this season, Forfar nicked all three points through a stoppage time winner from Gavin Swankie after Jim Lister had given the hosts an early lead.

In the return fixture at Station Park, Airdrie took the lead through a Paddy Boyle screamer only for the hosts to snatch a late equaliser.

With both teams having much to play for at this crucial stage in the season, another tight match can be expected.

There are two potential debutants in the Diamonds' squad; Partick Thistle loanee Liam Lindsay has yet to make an appearance, missing the Brechin match through illness before seeing last week's match at Ayr postponed.

And former Hearts and Livingston man Jordan Morton signed on last week, and is likely to be in the squad.

There have been changes in the visitors' ranks as well, with Iain Campbell coming in on loan from Cowdenbeath following defender Jim Paterson's departure to Dunfermline.

Midfielder Scott Smith has also left the club, returning to Dundee United following the completion of his loan spell.

Greg Aitken referees the Valentines' Day clash - for which spectators are invited to pay what they want. If the football on show exceeds expectations, there will be the option to top up your payment at the end of the match!

Kick off is at 5.30pm.
