Airdrieonians v Brechin City preview

10th October 2014

Scott Gray is loving life at New Broomfield despite a nightmare start to Airdrie's season - and the wing ace remains convinced that the Diamonds can turn things around.

Gray (20) joined the Club in the close season after rising through St Johnstone's youth system, and is relishing the opportunity of top-team action.

"I'm really enjoying being at Airdrie, it's my first taste of first team football.

"Although we're not getting the results yet it's good to be getting the experience".

It may be an understatement to say that Airdrie are 'not getting the results' - tomorrow's match against Brechin City brings the first quarter to a close, and so far the Diamonds have only one win to their name.

Midfielder Gray suggests that an inability to kill games off is costing vital points, but claims that the side have also been unlucky at times.

"We're just not getting the rub of the green at the moment, and we need to be more clinical in front of goal so it doesn't get to that late stage of hanging on to points".

Late goals have led to a draw and a defeat in the last two games at New Broomfield, with both Stranraer and Forfar coming from behind to nick points.

With another tough home match against Ray McKinnon's Brechin City looming, Scott says that he and his team-mates believe a turnaround is possible.

"We know we have the ability to climb the league, we just need to tighten up and see games out.

"Hopefully the fans have seen the effort we are putting in and can stick with us to get off the bottom!"

Airdrie were victorious in both New Broomfield meetings with Brechin last season, but the Glebe Park men have made a decent start to the campaign and currently occupy fourth place.

Last season's Airdrie skipper Darren McCormack has joined City, and may feature alongside fellow ex-Diamond Alan Trouten.

Midfielder Callum Tapping played as a trialist for Gary Bollan's men in pre-season before joining Brechin.

Greg Aitken will referee the match at New Broomfield, which kicks off at 1:00pm.
