Forfar Athletic v Airdrieonians preview

10th April 2015

Bob McHugh enjoyed his Diamonds debut - but the on-loan striker is expecting a tough challenge at Forfar.

Motherwell forward McHugh joined Airdrie until the end of the season as Gary Bollan's men battle hard to reach the coveted play-off positions, and the hitman was pleased with his bow in last weekend's 2-0 win at Stirling.

"I thought it went well. I really enjoyed being back playing competitive football, and I thought I played my part in a good result for Airdrie."

Two Bryan Prunty penalties were enough to secure victory over bottom side Albion, but a trip to second-placed Forfar Athletic tomorrow is likely to be a tougher prospect.

The Angus men moved into second place last weekend, beating Stenhousemuir at Ochilview while Morton dropped points at home.

Recent form has seen boss Dick Campbell lift the League One Manager of the Month award, and an exciting tie lies ahead as Airdrie look to continue their own impressive form.

McHugh knows it won't be easy, but feels an away win is possible as he explains what he brings to the squad:

'I'm expecting a really tough game, but we're confident we can get the much needed three points."

"I bring hard work and do what I can to win football matches. Hopefully that means goals and assists!"

With only a handful of games remaining, the striker is looking to make a big impression in a short space of time.

As injuries and suspensions take their toll, manager Gary Bollan is finding consistent team selection a problem, and Bob is hopeful that his arrival can benefit both parties.

"I'm hoping to play first team football after a frustrating season out due to a long term injury.

"Hopefully I can help Airdrie make it to the play-offs."

Midfielder Ross Docherty returns from a one-match ban, meaning both sides are free of suspension ahead of Saturday's clash.

Forfar welcome Stuart Malcolm back from injury, while Mark Baxter and Derek Young face fitness tests.

Jim Lister and Bryan Gilfillan remain sidelined for the Diamonds.

Euan Anderson will referee.
