Ayr United v Airdrieonians preview

30th August 2013

Jimmy Boyle has urged his Airdrieonians players to overcome recent disappointments at Somerset Park on Saturday.

The Diamonds boss is looking for his side to end a run of five matches without a victory when they take on old foes Ayr United.

"We just need to dust ourselves down," he said. "We have a really tough game at Ayr but we still believe that we can get ourselves up that league table.

"I think there is frustration, particularly from the supporters. We started the season really well and had a couple of good wins but the last three performances haven't been good.

"The players owe a performance on Saturday. Not just for the club and the supporters but for themselves.

"We've got to knuckle down, get back to basics and try and pick up positive results."

Boyle admits the players are unhappy with the dip in both results and form and believes going on the road could prove to be a blessing in disguise.

He added: "They've had a go at each other. They are hurting at the last three results. It's not as if it is one area where there is a problem. It's everywhere.

"We're away from home and maybe that will help. We've had a lot of home games so this trip will maybe freshen things up."

On the personnel front, full-back Chris O'Neil returns from suspension but midfielder Martin Hardie looks set to miss out with an ankle injury.
