Airdrieonians off-field signing
27th December 2013
Airdrieonians FC is delighted to announce that an arrangement has been concluded with Derek Campbell Shipping to sponsor Rocky II, the Return of the Rooster.
What was supposed to be a ‘dry-run’ at the match vs East Fife on Saturday past turned out to be a very wet run indeed, but the weather didn’t put off the return of our intrepid bird.
This reincarnation was made possible thanks to the resourcefulness and generosity of Derek Campbell and his company, in partnership with volunteers from the Airdrieonians FC Trust. Derek had wanted to find a unique way to support the club, especially focusing on the younger supporter. He fondly remembers his days visiting the old Broomfield as a youngster and is keen to help encourage attendance of younger Diamonds today.
Derek Campbell Shipping has been operating out of Coatbridge for over 15 years now, specialising in preparing documentation and shipping abnormal loads throughout the UK and around the world. Although he’s never shipped a rare 6ft rooster before, he hopes it proves worth the effort. Derek commented “I always wanted to find an original and sustained way of helping Airdrieonians, and so if Rocky Rooster helps encourage regular attendance at games by even just a couple of dozen young children, then that would be satisfying. Who knows how many of them might then become fans for life?”
Football club commercial manager John Drysdale echoed those sentiments: “Airdrieonians is coming through some tough times right now, and we need everyone with the club at heart to help put us back on track. If the on-field policy of bringing through young players is matched by the encouragement of attendance by young supporters in the stands, then that is a hugely positive boost to Airdrieonians in the long term”.
Look out for more antics from Airdrieonians’ mascot over the holiday period at upcoming home matches vs Arbroath and Rangers.
