Airdrieonians v Livingston preview

27th August 2013

It's League Cup night with Airdrieonians looking to overcome Livingston – and reach the third round.

The Diamonds will play their fourth game in 11 days at New Broomfield this evening against the SPFL Championship outfit.

Bouncing back from a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Rangers is the order of the day for Jimmy Boyle's team.

And defender Gregor Buchanan admits the players are determined to put things right and keep the Lions at bay.

"Our job is to keep things tight at the back," said the 23-year-old. "We've had a bit of a lesson from Rangers but we've got to bounce back; there is no other way to do it.

"Everybody needs to get going again starting with the Livingston game on Tuesday night.

"There is no time to dwell on this match.

"We need to get back to business and do our thing. We need to go out and get a result against Livingston."

Buchanan is available for selection again following a knee injury and made his first start of the campaign in the 2-0 defeat to Queen of the South in the Ramsdens Challenge Cup.

"I was disappointed to pick up that problem at the start of the season," he added. "I had bruising on the knee and it kept me out for a good three weeks to a month.

"I'd been happy with my pre-season and how I'd been doing and then all of that happened.

"It was frustrating but I was aiming to get back as quickly as possible. I got a good run-out against Queens and felt ready and thankfully the manager picked me [for Rangers].

"It was a great occasion to play in front of all these fans but we are really disappointed with the scoreline."

Airdrie will be without the suspended Chris O'Neil for tonight's game.
