Airdrieonians v Stenhousemuir preview

24th February 2014

Gary Bollan will be hoping Airdrieonians can steal a march on fellow strugglers East Fife by defeating Stenhousemuir on Tuesday night.

The Diamonds will close the gap to Gary Naysmith's men in eighth place to just a point with victory over the Warriors at New Broomfield.

Airdrie drew 0-0 at Methil on Saturday as they extended their impressive unbeaten record to five matches.

Now the focus is on entertaining Stenny who stunned League One leaders Rangers at Ibrox by earning a 3-3 draw thanks to a late penalty from Sean Higgins.

"It probably was a nervy game," reflected Bollan on the result and performance at the weekend. "In the end, it's probably a better point for them than it is for us. We came here for all three.

"I felt we had good possession at times. We created opportunities but didn't have that cutting edge.

"We're on a wee run. East Fife are four points in front of us and there are plenty of points to play for and be won.

"The players are buying into the work ethic. We're putting things from the training pitch into practice in game situations. Our aim is to climb out of the play-off spot."

Airdrie have kept two clean sheets in their last five games and Bollan, a defender during his playing days, admits there has been an emphasis on being tough to break down.

He added: "We're defending better and if you're not conceding then you've got a good chance. We're trying to base our game around that."
