Gary Bollan believes in-form Airdrieonians are in position to push for League One safety.

The Diamonds travel to East Fife on Saturday after hauling themselves off the bottom of the table for the first time in four months.

​

A late 2-1 win over Brechin City saw Bollan's troops leapfrog fellow strugglers Arbroath and move to within four points of Gary Naysmith's Fifers.

​

And the boss wants to see that gap wiped out after watching Airdrie pick up more points than any other side in the division over the last four games with the exception of leaders Rangers.

​

"I think we've given ourselves a good platform," he said. "We've got a good side in that dressing room.

​

"I've said that the team above us was our target. Now the aim is to catch the next team above us.

​

"If we win at East Fife we'll be a point away from them although we know that it will be an extremely difficult game."

​

Bollan was pleased with his side's battling qualities in last weekend's victory but felt the first-half performance was lacking.

​

"The boys were disappointed at the break as they knew they weren't at their best in the first half," the New Broomfield manager added.

​

"We were a lot better in the second half which I thought was more even.

​

"We got the ball down and passed it. We got into areas where we could hurt Brechin."

​

Meanwhile, on-loan Dundee United defender Ross Gilmour is looking forward to the future after bagging his first senior goal against Brechin.

​

The 19-year-old said: "We didn't start the game well but their goal kicked us into gear and we responded in the right way.

​

"I thought we did better once we scored and I was delighted to score my first career goal.

​

"The next few games are really important for us but we will take it one at a time and I think we've a great chance of getting three points at East Fife."

​

On the personnel front, Airdrie welcome back Jamie Bain from suspension.
