Brechin City v Airdrieonians preview

19th December 2013

Liam Coogans enjoyed a taste of the big time on trial at Blackburn Rovers, and the teen striker is determined to succeed - starting with an Airdrie win at Glebe Park.

The Diamonds are looking to pick themselves up from Saturday's home defeat to East Fife, and Coogans is in confident mood as the squad prepare to face fellow strugglers Brechin City in tomorrow night's rearranged fixture.

"The trial at Blackburn went amazingly. It was a brilliant experience for me, and it's given me confidence and made me more determined to do well with Airdrie.

"It was a hard one to swallow on Saturday, but I'm 100% confident we can beat Brechin. We've already beaten them at home".

Coogans is one of five Airdrie youths on full-time contracts as part of the Airdrieonians Academy initiative, but he insists the whole squad are doubling their efforts in an attempt to turn things around.

"We are working hard. I would ask the fans to keep backing the team, and I'm confident we will start winning games and move up the league".

Manager Gary Bollan is again without Grant Evans (ankle) and Chris O'Neil (groin) ahead of the trip North. Lewis Coult is rated doubtful after being taken off with a groin strain on Saturday.

The Diamonds gaffer was disappointed by Airdrie heads going down after a strong start at the weekend.

"That's not what we want to be dealing with. You've got to push on and try and win. We need to change that".

With his side rooted to the bottom of the table as the season's halfway mark approaches, Bollan is only too aware of what needs to be done.

"It's a serious situation. We've got a massive game at Brechin on Tuesday. We need a victory. We need three points".
