Managers View - Defending

15th August 2013

Jimmy Boyle has ordered his Airdrieonians players to keep the back door shut.

The Diamonds have conceded six goals in their last two games – although they remain unbeaten so far this season.

Airdrie drew 3-3 with Forfar Athletic at Station Park on Saturday in their SPFL League One opener.

And Boyle wants defensive lessons to be learned ahead of this weekend's visit of Stenhousemuir.

He said: "This has become a little bit of a problem already and we have spoken about it with the players.

"Maybe they haven't been listening. We can't afford to give teams a start and that is something we will need to work on.

"What we need to do is keep that back door shut and try and keep the ball a bit better. That's what we will be working on."

On the result at Forfar, Boyle added: "When you come away from home and score three goals you are looking for three points. It's a hard one to take to not get them."
