Airdrieonians v Stranraer preview

13th September 2013

Airdrieonians return to action on Saturday after the international break with Stranraer the visitors to New Broomfield.

The Diamonds are looking for their first SPFL League One victory of the campaign after picking up two points from a possible 12 so far.

But Stranraer, who reached the third round of the League Cup following a shock 3-2 win over SPFL Premiership outfit Ross County, will be a tough nut to crack.

Continuing to work hard will be the order of the day for Airdrie's players with Jimmy Boyle hoping for a first home league triumph in more than 13 months.

"We're anxious to get any win whether it be home or away or whatever," the manager said.

"I don't think we are far away. We just need to roll up the sleeves and work that little bit harder.

"We're only four games into the season so I don't think it's a must-win game.

"But this is a game we feel we can win. We need to be positive and make sure we keep creating chances."

Airdrie look set to be without midfielder Martin Hardie due to an ankle injury with right-back Chris O'Neil questionable because of a groin problem.

A new goalkeeper could also be signed before kick-off with Airdrie active in the loans market following the departure of summer signing Colin Stewart.

Meanwhile, the Diamonds are taking part in this season's SPFL Reserve League and have opened up with two defeats to full-time opposition.

Airdrie lost 6-1 at Queen of the South but played well on Monday night at the stadium before going down 1-0 to Livingston with substitute Danny Mullen bagging a last-gasp winner.
