Craig Barr says Airdrieonians have nothing to lose as they get ready to spoil Rangers' championship party at Ibrox.

The 26-year-old, who can operate in defence or midfield, will be involved on Wednesday night when the Light Blues know a win will clinch back-to-back automatic promotions. 

​

The Diamonds have lost all four previous meetings between the teams in the league and cup this term and failed to score in each of those matches. 

​

But ex-Gretna and Livingston ace Barr, who scored the opening goal in the 3-0 victory over Ayr United on March 1, is well up for the challenge of facing Ally McCoist's full-time side. 

​

He said: "We're looking forward to playing Rangers. Nothing will be expected of us but sometimes it can be good going in as the underdog. We'll be positive. 

​

"I'm a Rangers fan and it will be a massive occasion. I was fortunate enough to play there a few years ago with Gretna and it will be great to go back again. 

​

"The results weren't great but it was a good Rangers side back then and we'd just come up to the SPL so not much was expected for us. 

​

"When you see the likes of Stenhousemuir go there and get a point it gives you hope and also some encouragement to the whole league. 

​

"I've kept an eye on things every week and seen Rangers win comfortably or managing to snatch games late on. 

​

"We've nothing to lose. We will hope for the best and give it our best." 

​

Barr has joined Airdrie after spending the second half of last year abroad with Swedish club Östersunds. 

​

He added: "I've been really impressed with the way the boys have been playing and training since I came in. 

​

"There was a great atmosphere in the dressing room but we can't dwell on this. We've got to kick on. 

​

"This doesn't look like a team that has been struggling. The attitude of everyone has been great and the players and management are sticking together."

Meanwhile, Diamonds boss Gary Bollan hopes his players can cause Gers problems and extend an unbeaten run currently standing at seven games.

"We'll go and give it our best shot," the manager said. "We'll try and express ourselves but it is always difficult going there.

"They are streets ahead but teams can go there and put them under a bit of pressure." 

​

Airdrie have no fresh injury or suspension worries ahead of the trip to Glasgow.
