Arbroath v Airdrieonians preview

11th October 2013

Jimmy Boyle is looking for Airdrieonians to make it back-to-back wins when they travel to face Arbroath at Gayfield.

The Diamonds defeated Brechin City 3-1 at New Broomfield last weekend with the manager in a positive frame of mind ahead of Saturday's trip to the north-east.

"We started the Brechin game tentatively but we created most of the chances in the first half although I was disappointed with the goal we lost," he said.

"The first-half performance was really good but I don't think we played that well in the second half and we had to work really hard.

"There were times when we sat too deep. We also gave the ball away cheaply and that has been a problem for us for quite a while. But I was pleased for the players and we will look to take this on into the Arbroath game."

Boyle was also full of praise for striker Lewis Coult, who came off the bench to net his fourth goal of the season, and veteran midfielder Martin Hardie.

"I'm pleased big Lewis got his goal," the gaffer added. "It will do wonders for his confidence.

"Martin's experienced and his knowledge of the game keeps us right. He played just in front of the back four so we could try and combat Brechin's system."

Full-back Chris O'Neil and forward Jim Lister should be available for selection after returning against Brechin and Boyle is pleased they have overcome injuries.

He said: "It's great to have guys like Jim and Chris back. They did well and we'll take care of them."
