Jim believes winning mentality is key

7th August 2013

Jim Lister says back-to-back victories shows that Airdrieonians are developing a winning mentality.

The 32-year-old was excellent as the Diamonds beat Stenhousemuir 4-3 in the first round of the League Cup on Saturday.

He said: "We have a lot of belief in the team. We're still in the two cups and developing a winning mentality.

"We didn't start well but you've got to be pleased to get the win when you come back from two goals down.

"We're a young, fit team. We're capable of scoring goals and I think we can only get better."

Lister, who played a key role in setting up three of Airdrie's goals, had a chance in the dying seconds to net one of his own.

But he chose to square the ball to substitute Jamie Bain who miskicked with teenager Liam Coogans also in the box ready to pounce – it will be the last time he does that.

"I'm a team player," the striker added. "I'm not a selfish player but I should have had that shot at the end.

"I was going through and I had two boys screaming for the ball. It was a tap-in for either of them.

"You better believe I won't be as unselfish next time and they all know it as well!"
