Airdrieonians v Arbroath preview

6th December 2013

Airdrieonians are looking to finish the year on a high when they entertain Arbroath at New Broomfield on Saturday.

Both teams will be desperate for a victory in their final SPFL League One fixture of 2013.

The Diamonds are without a win in almost three months but ended a nine-game losing skid on Saturday with a 1-1 draw at Stenhousemuir.

Opponents Arbroath are in miserable form themselves having gone on a nine-match winless streak since beating Airdrie 3-2 at Gayfield on October 12.

Gary Bollan's side are bottom of the table but know victory over the Smokies, who sit in the relegation play-off position, will close the gap to two points.

The Diamonds will be without defenders Chris O'Neil, Grant Evans and Grant Drummond for the visit of Arbroath and will evaluate Paddy Boyle's gashed knee.

Midfielder Nathan Blockley is out through suspension.

At Ochilview last weekend, Gregor Buchanan's second goal of the season put Airdrie in front but substitute Sean Dickson rescued a point for the Warriors.

Reflecting on that match, Bollan said: "The lads are really disappointed that they have only come away from this game with a point.

"Our defenders were excellent but they got caught flat once and were punished for it.

"I can't fault the players for effort and commitment. The position we are in is worrying but not overly worrying. There are loads of games to go."
