Livingston v Airdrie preview

17th August 2012

JIMMY BOYLE is demanding an improved performance when Airdrie travel to Livingston tomorrow.

The Diamonds crashed out of the Ramsdens Challenge Cup at Third Division East Stirling on Tuesday night.

Boyle was furious with the display at Ochilview as goals from Scott Maxwell, Kevin Turner and Michael Herd earned Shire a 3-0 win.

Now the manager is ordering the players to go out and make amends - starting at Almondvale this weekend.

Airdrie opened their Irn-Bru First Division campaign, following a belated summer promotion, with a 4-1 victory at home to Dumbarton.

Opponents Livi also made an encouraging start, emerging from their trip to Morton with a point after an exciting 2-2 draw.

"Our performance was just unacceptable for a First Division team," said Boyle in the wake of his side's cup exit. "The third goal epitomised everything about the game for us.

"We told the players they would have to work hard if they wanted to get something out of the game but too many players didn't play at all."

Boyle added: "With a performance like that, there should not be a lot of work needing done before Saturday.

"It's a big one for us on Saturday to see who is going to roll their sleeves up and stand up and be counted.

"We know that Livingston is a hard place to go."

Airdrie will check on the fitness of left-back Marc Warren (groin) and Ryan Donnelly (ankle) before kick-off. Both players missed the defeat to East Stirling through injury.
