Alan Cook knows there's more at stake than relegation against Hamilton Accies on Tuesday night.

The midfielder is one of a number of players out of contract in the summer and will be playing for his future.

​

He admitted "The last four/five games will be crucial to prove that I'm worth another contract."

 

This season hasn't been fair to Cookie, who has been out injured since September.

​

He returned to the squad against Morton on Saturday after being out with an ankle ligament problem he picked up against Partick Thistle when the Jags won 7-0.

​

By the time the former Stirling Albion player came off the bench at Cappielow the Diamonds were already 2-0 down thanks to a Peter MacDonald double. 

​

MacDonald quickly grabbed his hat-trick before a Colin McMenamin penalty made it 4-0.

​

However Sean Lynch pulled one back before Cook capped off a remarkable return to the team by reducing the deficit to 4-2.

​

Ton made it 5-2 shortly after defender Grant Evans received a second yellow card, meaning he'll miss Tuesday's crucial fixture with Accies.

​

Cook added: "We've shown at times that there's no team that will beat you or play you off the park. It's been few and far between.

​

"For key parts in the game we've maybe made a slight error or not taken a chance and it's led to not picking up as many points.

​

"It's the small things that have been affecting us results wise which is impacting on the points. 

​

"We can pick up a win against Hamilton no problem. We've already beaten them at New Douglas Park this season, there's no reason we can't do it again."
