Dumbarton match preview

20th April 2012

AIRDRIE could all but secure a promotion play-off spot this weekend at The Rock.

A club record seventh victory in a row would take the Diamonds into third place in the SFL2 table.

Should Airdrie win - and Stenhousemuir and East Fife lose to Brechin City and Stirling Albion respectively - then Jimmy Boyle's men would open up a six-point gap.

With just two games remaining, only goal difference could then deny the Diamonds a post-season berth.

It is a tantalising prospect for Airdrie who looked down and out at the beginning of last month.

But an eight-match unbeaten record has dramatically altered the fortunes of Boyle's side.

The manager said: "I would have taken this position six or seven weeks ago. I've been asked if I could see a run like this coming.

"I've always believed in the players. I think we are a good football team and look strong when we go on a run.

"We've now got to focus on Dumbarton and we aren't looking any further ahead than that. This is the way it will be to the end of the season.

"We beat Dumbarton at home on the opening day but drawn and lost the two meetings with them since. They've had a great season but we're confident of getting a good result."

Saturday's match referee is Mr John McEndrick.
