Specsavers promotion

17th February 2012

Airdrie footballers have been ensuring their eyesight is on top form for the push to the promotion play-offs in the remainder of the season.

Top scorer Ryan Donnelly and defensive mainstay Paul Lovering stopped by the town’s Specsavers store, where they had their eyes put through their paces. Under 19 star Scott Sally, who wears the Airdrie colours sponsored by Specsavers, also came along to check out the range of sunglasses.

Lynn Whyte, manager of the Graham Street opticians, said: "It was great to welcome the players to the store for their free eye check. Airdrie Specsavers has a great relationship with the club as we sponsor the U19s squad.

"We are keen to ensure that all the players are taking good care of their eyes. Our opticians can tell a lot about a person’s health just by the simple test".

19-year-old striker Donnelly has already scored 25 goals this season, attracting attention from around the country as a rising star in the Diamonds’ ranks. Scott Sally, a year younger, hopes to follow in Ryan’s footsteps very soon, whilst Paul Lovering is closer to the end of his career than the beginning, and has seen it all through a successful time in the game.

Local boy Ryan said: "I have loved football from a young age but in order for me to fulfil my dream of playing the game full-time, I need to ensure I take good care of myself – and that includes looking after my eyes".

Paul Lovering added: "Well into my 30s now, and I knew that test would show my eyesight is starting to weaken. So I shall be back to complete my prescription soon, as the staff at Specsavers are really helpful. But meantime I can still see well enough to put in the tackles on the park".

Scott Sally also brought along three pairs of tickets for Airdrie’s home matches on 3rd, 17th, and 24th March – and these will be raffled off to Specsavers customers.

Lynn commented: "Specsavers would like to thank the club for the tickets. Every customer that purchases a pair of glasses between now and 21st March will be entered into a free prize draw to win the tickets".
