AIRDRIE star Kieron Stallard says beating Ayr United was his best feeling in football.

Now the Chapelhall native is looking to see off Dumbarton and get to the Irn-Bru First Division.

The Diamonds reached the SFL1 play-off final with a 3-1 aggregate success over Ayr at the weekend.

​

Tonight, the Sons are the final opposition standing between Airdrie and a return to the First Division.

​

Stallard said: "That was the best feeling ever on Saturday when we beat Ayr and knew we were in the play-off final.

​

"I genuinely thought the best team won over two legs. We could have scored more as we had loads of chances.

​

"There were some changes to the side, especially at the back, but big Ricki Lamie handled the game well and Ewan McNeil strolled it.

​

"I don't think any of the players are affected by the club's past record in the play-offs even though you hear it getting talked about."

Airdrie's two matches with the Sons will be screened live on BBC ALBA. Stallard expects Dumbarton to make life hard but belief is coursing through his veins.

​

Stallard added: "We're now focusing on Dumbarton. They will be two tough games but if we played like we did at Ayr, we'll be fine.

​

"We will go there with the same mentality we've had these last few weeks which is to be confident and work hard.

​

"It's extra special for me given that I'm from the area. I know this is the club's biggest achievement for a few years.

​

"Promotion is the aim for us."

Airdrie will gave late fitness checks to captain Paul Lovering and Cameron MacDonald while Kevin Green is a doubt after sustaining an injury at Ayr.
