Albion Rovers match preview

9th March 2012

AIRDRIE will make the short trip along the A89 for the final Monklands derby of the season.

The Diamonds are desperate for three points at Albion Rovers tomorrow to stay in contention for a top-four place.

A gap of seven points exists between Jimmy Boyle's side in seventh position and Stenhousemuir in the final promotion play-off spot.

And the manager believes his side will need to produce their best in the final quarter of the campaign if they are to reach the post-season.

He said: "I think we have to be looking at winning seven games between now and the end of the season.

"Even then, that might not be enough to get us in the top four which is why we have to take each game as it comes.

"We feel we should be higher up the table given the quality of player we have at the club.

"But we need to go on a run. We haven't done that this season but it needs to start now."

A run of one win in nine games has prompted fears of a potential relegation battle.

However, a defiant Boyle is refusing to accept such suggestions and made his stance quite clear when asked about the issue.

"I'm not at all worried about the other end of the table," he added. "I've not even thought about it.

"I don't want anyone speaking about that. If they do, they can leave the club. They won't play again. There can't be any negativity. We have to be positive."

Airdrie will be without top goalscorer Ryan Donnelly who is banned. Midfielder Jamie Stevenson (lower back) and Scott Morton (hip) will be assessed following injury.

Meanwhile, teenage defender Ricki Lamie has signed a contract with the club through to the end of next season.

Referee Euan Anderson will be the man in the middle for Saturday's Cliftonhill showdown.
