Trust launch KitAid amnesty at Airdrie Fair Day

July 4, 2018

Airdrie Fair Day on the 30th of June saw the Supporters Trust launch its fifth annual Football Kit Amnesty in support of the KitAid Charity.

The sun was shining and the town centre was buzzing, and once again Airdrieonians FC were well represented as the fans came out in great numbers to back the Trust’s kit amnesty.

The day really kicked off with Trust representatives Willie Marshall and Bob Reid being the opening ‘act’ on the Fair Day stage, taking the opportunity to encourage locals to come along and support their local team and to take advantage of the chance to claim a free under 16s season ticket by donating their old football strips. They also spoke of the fantastic value of the young supporters group the Airdrie Aces and all the benefits that go along with being a member. The real star of the Fair Day was as ever our very own club mascot Rocky the Rooster, who put on a dance display to entertain the Airdrie audience before heading out into the crowds and posing for photographs throughout the day.

The Trust stall, where we were joined by club partners Kandy Land, was jam packed across the day. Along with collecting old football kit and distributing the free under 16s season tickets, we also signed up lots of new members to the Trust and the Airdrie Aces, sold club merchandise and promoted upcoming events. Airdrie’s very own friend of the stars, Ross Owen, was there too - and he was joined by star of ‘River City’ and ‘Scot Squad’ Jordan Young, who was there to help spread the word of KitAid, the Club and Trust. After a quick interview on stage he spent a couple of hours posing for selfies with fans, many of whom were being introduced to the activities going on around Airdrieonians FC for the first time.

All in all, it was yet another fantastic Fair Day with lots of Airdrie colours on display wherever you went. If you were unfortunate enough to have missed out on the day then you needn’t worry as you can still donate your old football kits to KitAid and in return claim your free under 16s season tickets up until August 11. The Club Shop at the Penny Cars Stadium will be open every weekday between now and the first league game - opening hours are Monday to Friday 10:00am - 2:30pm and Thursday evenings 7:30 - 8:30pm, as well as on any match day. Any additional opening times will be advertised on the club website and social media.

Even if you are not looking to claim a free season ticket you can still help - the Trust are aiming to get the total number of items donated to KitAid up to 20,000, having previously donated around 15,000 pieces of kit. Dig out your old strips that are buried at the back of your cupboards and drawers, and ask your friends and family to do the same. If you know anyone involved at any local sports or youth groups or at schools ask them to get involved and they can claim under 16s season tickets for all their members in return.

Finally, we would like to say a huge heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who made the Fair Day a huge success.
